George Jahosky’s Story
One of my favorite things about this work is watching a soldier’s story find its way home.
PFC George Jahosky served with Company A, 242nd Infantry Regiment, 42nd “Rainbow” Division during World War II. His grandson Michael came to me after years of trying to understand exactly where his grandfather had been and what he had experienced during the war.
It turns out George’s path was traceable in archival documentation, and his story was reconstructed - including the precise details of his story that had been missing.
Now the Queens Chronicle has shared his story with the community he came from.
There is something deeply satisfying about that circle closing. A man leaves home for war. Eighty years later, his family goes looking for him. And finally, his name and his story come home again.
